Limelight Hydrangea

Here is my limelight hydrangea. It came from Home Depot last fall. This spring I re-potted it and trimmed all the leaves, down to the last 2 leaves on each new branch. tonight I took off lots of the older branches because they will not bend, and were horribly placed....
again. before during and after :)
I'm not sure where I'm going with this tree yet.I might just cut it all off. It's a good thing this tree has interesting nebari.
I ended up chopping it back......

ligustrum ovalifolium( privet)

Here is a picture of my first tree. It's an oval leaf privet. It was left a leftover from a hedge.
This spring I realized that the nebari and reverse taper made this an ugly tree(along with other things).

I decided to layer the top off. I basically air layered the top but instead of covering the wound with sphagnum moss and plastic wrap, I planted the whole tree in a large pot so the new top was the only thing exposed.then i put the top of a plastic cup around the new trunk so the soil wouldn't erode.I let the tree rest for over a month and trimmed some of the unwanted branches and leaves. Here it is..
Now it has been a few weeks. I trimmed the leaves again and got rid of the Straight branch on the left side. I wired a few branches. The wire will come off mid september. There is also a new branch forming at the top of the tree that may become the new leader. It's closer to the trunk than the old one and it is growing straight up.

first post.

Hi there, and welcome to my little corner of the world.
This blog is going to be a progression series of my trees. What started out as one single tree left over from a hedge that wasn't planted has turned in to an obsession....
